Suggestion for minor improvement in the boot-up scan

I hope this is the right place to post a suggestion for improvement, if not, I do apologize and if a moderator will kindly direct me to the correct place for this sort of thing I will repost this there.

I wanted to suggest a minor improvement in the boot-up scan, namely in that the option of what to do if an infected file is found should be selected at the very beginning of the scan so it may run without input to completion from that point forward.

Last night I set a boot up scan and restarted my computer and then went to bed not considering what might happen when something was detected, I awoke this morning to find that something had been detected and the scan was only 11% complete and paused while it waited for my prompting of what to do with the file forcing me to abandon the scan in order to utilize my computer for the days online activities. It would be most convenient to avoid situations like that in the future by placing the “what to do if an infected file is found” prompt at the very beginning. I hope that the development team will take this suggestion under consideration and hopefully implement it in a future release.

If my memory serves me right, you used to be able to set a default action in previous versions of avast. My default would be to do nothing, I would just check the aswBoot.txt report of the boot-time scan and see what if anything it found.

I have just done a couple of boot-time scans but I didn’t set any actions.

But after some investigation I found it is still possible to set actions. When you go to AvastUI > Protection > Antivirus > Other scans - Boot-time scan, click on the cog (icon) settings and check the ‘Automatically apply actions during scan (check this box to select an action)’ option.

This expands the window to allow to input actions for Virus, PUP or Suspicious detections. I left these at the No Action. This should allow it to complete the scan, but you would have to check the Scan History or the aswBoot.txt report in the C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report folder.

Thank you David! I didn’t find that when I went looking, I just did not look hard enough it seems. I appreciate you taking the time to take some screenshots to point this out for me.

The settings are very discrete (read difficult to find) the icons really could be a little bigger and not greyed out until you hover the mouse over them. You may have now guessed the little Clock icon on some of the scans is used to schedule the scan.

I find the screenshots are better than solely a text explanation.
