suggestion: scanning a file

avast4 scannes a file on open by default and could be configured to scan a file on create/modify…
some other AV scanners, scannes a file immediately if the user clicked on it (a single click to choose the file not a double-click to open it)…
is it possible to implement this behavior in avast4? ??? ???
that would be nice as it addes more protection to the user (I think ::slight_smile: ::slight_smile: ) …

Clicking on the file where? In Explorer?
I don’t think you can have more that scanning the file on open…

Igor, am I right to think that a virus could only be ‘activated’ by the running (opening) of the file and not just only a right click for the Context Menu into Windows Explorer (to see its properties, for instance)? ::slight_smile:

For usual viruses, it’s true. For macroviruses, the file is actually read by the host application, not “executed” in the usual sense.

I was just trying to say that even the clicking the file and checking its properties opens the file in a way that “scan files on open” should catch.

thanx for the clarification Igor ;D
