I made a presentation to Avast! 2+ years ago saying they should consider selling the Pro version for $ 5- per year or $ 10- one time fee to individuals who would otherwise not necessarily need anything more than the free version. It would have conservatively increased Avast!'s income by $ 4 million even if a minor fraction of free users decided that was a small price to pay to support their favorite AV and get a few extra features along the way. Simple, logical.
Alas, nothing happened. Now however, we have this $ 9.99 “Summer Sale”! Great, finally! I said! I went to buy and what did I find? BAIT!!! Its not $ 9.99 per year, or one time cost. This will cost me $ 39.99 at the end of year 1 to continue! This is like the newspaper free or reduced cost delivery bait “deals” that quietly turn into big revenue generators later! DON’T insult me with this drivel.
To Avast!: Look, I mean LOOK at the market you are in right now, the prices that prevail, the competition. Don’t treat us like dummies who will mindlessly do anything because you think up a marketing angle. Time has long past for that. DEAL with individual users in a way that makes you more revenue you will other wise miss out on, and gives them some value for money relative to the current business market, at no additional cost to you.
first, if they did like you said, then they could actually loose money. if all regular home users that pay full price for the pro were to get it for that much cheaper, then you would have to sell that many more copies just to break even before you would make a profit.
As for me, I like their software and would be willing to pay for it. Where my problems come in is I have a limited income… and before you say, here is another person wanting me to feel sorry for them… I am not. fact of the matter is I am paralyzed, have had just about every part of my body broke from my jaw to my toes. and it was not my fault… I wasnt the one doing 85 in a 30 MPH zone… but the fact is I am now on disability because of it, so my income is not that high. I am still running single core processors from 5 or so years ago. If i had a lot extra I would have upgraded to quad core PC’s…
But there are a total of 5 computers (I have my sister, her 3 kids, and my mom that all use them regularly so that is not that many PC’s all considering) in the house. 2 are laptops that dont get used much (dont trust the kids with them). For that reason, I just get one key and put the same one on all my PC’s (less hassle and dont have to worry about which one goes with which PC when I have to reinstall). but I dont have the money to pay for 5 licenses. If they had a multi PC license for pro for something like 30 a year, then I would go for it, but I dont have the money to pay for it when it goes up to full price, and dont want to have to go switching back and forth. if I go with pro because of a good price, I want it to stay at that price from year to year, not jump to 3 or so times the price the following year or have to constantly watch for specials to get the price.
Personally, I did become wanting to pay for a license when the orange popup showed up, but what I really wonder is that, can Avast payment support “Alipay” for Chinese users? I have no credit card and Palpay account. So I was confused how to pay the Summer Sale - -. Thanks. ???
I see this confusing as well. I can’t seem to find any of the info on the webpage itself. No mention of this Summer Sale and the price of Pro version is not 10 EUR either…
I looked on their site and could find nothing about the special either, but i do have the link that they gave me for the special. it comes up in US dollars, but i am in the US so not sure if it can be changed to other countries / currencies. it is 9.99 her in the US.
I bought an aIS license recently; 3 PCs, 2 years, $59.99 USD. That’s $10 USD per PC per year. Much better than $15.56 USD.
I obtained a refund shortly thereafter because (1) It wasn’t updating when I was telling it to; and (2) avastSvc.exe kept crashing on me, and support didn’t even ask for my log and/or .mdmp files.
My license is good 'till June 2012 and I was wondering if I can prolong my license by, say, purchase a new one when there’s a special, even before the end of my current license.
The license commences from the time of purchase, so buying it too early to obtain a deal on an offer like this would waste the period remaining of your existing license unless you had another system that you could use it on.
So there is likely to be other offers closer to your expiry date and you would have to weigh up the cost of the deal against what you lose in time period by updating early.
I also don’t know if these offers would be being popped up on paid versions as they are obviously trying to convert avast free version users to pro/ais, etc.
Also, my experience from my last renewal was that the loyalty discount offered to me was much lower than the new customer discount available at the time - so its worth checking that before acting on a renewal invitation.
You’re welcome.
Hopefully there will be a change in policy at some point in the future (not that I have any influence, just wishful thinking) that a new license doesn’t commence until the date your old one ends.
