Sun patches 358 bugs in Java

Hi malware fighters,

Your Java up to date. What has been patched: http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/6u18.html#bugfixes-1.6.0_18

Wow only 358 bugs, you think they could have stretched to 365 (one a day for a year) ;D

So another monstrous download then, god I wish they would get round to incremental updates. Mind you I have just checked that link you gave and it says if you already have Update 17 then you don’t need this update ???

There are no security fixes in update 18.

This thread simply sums up why there is no form of java on my pc at all…

-Ridiculous amounts of bugs…
-Potential security risks…
-Confusion in updating (which further enhances the above)

The only reason it is on my system is to avoid on-line scanners that insist on activeX (having to use IE, which I try to avoid). There are a few other sites, Secunia software inspector for one, but yes it is a huge overhead for all that I use it for.

I’ve dropped Java… It was there, difficult to update, bothering the startup, etc. etc.
Only one on-line scanner (can’t remember which one) uses Java instead of ActiveX.
It doesn’t worth the installation and taking care - baby sitting - of Java.

I updated it to 18 by downloading it from FileHippo.

FileHippo.com Update Checker told me about it:

I think Java is needed for OpenOffice.org and it is needed for Frostwire/Limewire. Also if you’re a Java dev you need it too.

No. OpenOffice “asks” for Java (suggest the installation).
