SUPERAntispyware, Avast and Trojans (follow-up)

Hello all,

Answering to following message :

Can you send the samples to virus@avast.com ?
You can zip and password the files… Inform a link to this thread and the password used.
You can send the files to Chest and, from there, resend to Alwil for analysis.

Actually, the 2 files are in the chest. I used the option to e-mail one of them directly to
ALWIL for analysis from there, hope this will work. I do not know if this is the right way
to proceed. Sorry if for same reason I miused it.

That may looks stupid, but I do not really know how to “zip and password a file” in a
correct way. I have a WinZip Wizard program that I have to file name to supply to,
how can I access the unfected file to send ? And how can I apply a password and set
a link for it ?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No really silly question.

Open winzip, click new ,
select where you want to create, (desktop is good if you are just mailing it)
name it, click ok
click the password button, enter a password (virus, infected, etc)
click ok
find the file you want in the top window, highlight it, click add

remenber the password so you can include it in the email

edit: To add the link, right click on the subject title at the top of your postpost, for example

"SUPERAntispyware, Avast and Trojans (follow-up) "

chose copy shortcut, then in your email right click and chose paste.

OK, so if it was right, I have a few minutes ago send via the same way the 2nd infected file for analysis.

Thanks in advance for any feed back.

Interestingly I have just uninstalled SAS as it has started to completely freeze my system during scans, everything completely locked mouse pointer, keyboard, etc. The only way to get up and running is a power reboot.

I have been using it for about 3 months with no problems and really the only change on my system was the Dec windows updates (done late in the month, I always wait to see if there are any reported issues first, haven’t done the Jan 2008 updates yet) and any SAS and avast updates.

Nothing of help on the SAS forums. I’m just wondering if oldman has come across this with other users he has suggested SAS too ?

SAS scanning never freezed to me… strange… I’m not used to SAS logs, is there any?

By the way, welcome back David 8)

No one has reported any problems so far. Essexboy uses it also and haven’t heard of any adverse effects from him. He may have even upgraded to the new version.

Yep I got the 4.0 beta and no problems at all on Vista

Does it worth a try? Is it stable? Which are the advantages to the current non-beta version?

Not back yet, I get the plaster off on Tuesday and stitches out then hopefully a removable splint, then hopefully I can start on the road to useful recovery with my right hand.

You only get logs on completion of a scan and that doesn’t happen and requires a hard reboot. I just popped in having noticed the SAS topic, since I have had problems with it and I just can’t understand the problem as it has worked fine up until about a week ago and effectively nothing has changed; other than windows update (XP) and this were the problem I would have expected to see some activity on the SAS forums and nothing really.

I hate unresolved problems like this so it is history for now, I don’t know if I would use the 4.0 beta hopefully it won’t bee too long before the 4.0 release and I will try again. Until then I’m trying SpywareTerminator and I’m not too impressed with it so far.
