Guenter
Just a note - if we’re talking about Win XP support, the requirement here is that it’s Win XP SP3. Older service packs won’t be supported, and they most likely haven’t been working properly for quite some time now, because older service packs can’t verify new server certificates.
There is also the CPU requirement that it has SSE2 instruction set support. Some XP systems are pretty old so their CPU may not support the SSE2 instruction set, an avast requirement.
I’m not aware of any such plans at the moment… but I can’t rule out the possibility that I just wasn’t told.
It’s slightly different…yes, new versions of Avast require SSE2-capable CPUs - but old versions of the program should still work without. With XP SP2 and lower, however, even those old versions of Avast (which previously worked correctly there) have started to fail to some degree during the past year, I believe.
I obviously have an interest in this subject as I have XP Pro SP3 (in my case).
I now have three systems XP Pro, win7 and a win10 notebook and I still prefer my XP Pro desktop system (in my signature) to the others. My win7 netbook now gets less and less use as it is very under powered and as slow as molasses at times.
I’m still finding my way on my Acer Aspire F15 win10 notebook but that is a pretty quick system Intel i5-7277U 2.50GHz to 3.1GHz, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD primary drive 1TB HDD secondary drive. It’s much faster than my old desktop.
