Supposedly Uninfected Computer Crashing On Boot

I apologise in advance if this has been posted elsewhere, but as my post will explain, I can’t really search for other threads.

I’ve had absolutely no problem with booting my computer before and have, as far as I know, made no significant changes recently. However, in the past week, the computer has started crashing/ hanging/ freezing/ showing a black screen with cursor/ crashing with BSOD nearly every time I attempt to boot it normally. Under normal circumstances, I’d understand anyone saying it’s just a HD error and would try to get it fixed, except for one anomaly: It boots perfectly fine into Safe Mode.

After running a full virus scan and defrag, my computer apparently gets a clean bill of health, with no problems found whatsoever, but I still have trouble booting into Normal Mode. The only thing I’ve found that seems to help is disabling the wireless network adapter so that it can’t connect on startup. I did this out of suspicion that it might be a virus that activates when the computer starts/ connects to the et (not sure what that’s called, mainly because my brain is fried from late nights of troubleshooting), and surprise surprise, it seemed to work. I restarted the adapter and managed to get the browser open and get to this page before it started hanging now and again, hence not being able to search for an answer, since every page change takes a bit longer than the last and I’m constantly worried that the next click could trigger a crash.

I’m completely stumped as to what could be causing the problem apart from the suspicion of a virus, but as the scans aren’t finding anything, I don’t really know what I should do. Any help or advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated, though I must mention in advance that I don’t have a Windows disc at all to reinstall because my computer didn’t come with one (the computer is about a year old, with Windows 7 installed from the manufacturer). I do, however, have an Avast Rescue Disk that I got when I renewed my antivirus, though I’m not sure if that would be of any use in this scenario.

Edit: I’ve just found that the browser worked relatively normally while on this page, and didn’t seem to have any trouble with opening another tab, but froze for a few seconds when switching to Facebook and when I tried to type on there (and also in the middle of typing this when I was sent a message in the Facebook tab). Not sure if that might give any indication as to the problem as I know very little about that side of things.

Additional Edit: I’ve just booted again, this time with all startup programs disabled, and still took well over 10 minutes to be able to do anything on it. ???
