Suspect Malware has shut down Avast

I was browsing the internet and redirected to an infected page. Since that time I have been unable to activate Avast. Trying to start the program results in it thinking for several seconds then nothing happening. Occasionally it’ll remain as a background task on my task manager but never makes it so far as opening the app. I’ve tried scanning individual files and that also doesn’t work.

I’m at a loss for what to do here other than reformat which isn’t exactly an option I relish. Please advise.
