If this is a virus then I’ve had it for over a year and a half now, getting progressively worse…
When I click to open a folder on my desktop it takes at least 2 minutes to come up and when it does every file I have in any folder cannot be deleted, all I get are error messages saying Unable to delete file: blah blah blah… I’m sorry I don’t have more information but I don’t even know if it is a virus and I can’t do an on-line scan because it prevents me from downloading anything ( ActiveX and Java). I have Ad-Aware and Spybot and both are updated to remove all of that, I also have Norton ( apparently they don’t like paying customers?)…Does any of this sound familiar???
P.S. I also have a laptop computer that works perfectly with Norton and a paid for edition of Ad-Aware SE that downloads just fine… might I be able to download avast! or AVG, burn it onto a CD, and then boot it up on the infected computer??

Does this happen with all folders or only a particular folder? Do you have administrator rights? What is the rest of the error message? What is your operating system?
Do you mean only ActiveX and Java are blocked, or you cannot download anything at all?
Norton and avast! won’t live well together. AVG might work with Norton - I did it once successfully but not reliably on other computers. Best to remove Norton first if want another anti-virus but post again with the additional information first.
It happens with my entire computer, I can’t delete anything at all. I always get that error message. Yes, I have administrator rights…this is the entire error message: Cannot delete (FILE NAME): The operation completed successfully. I’m running Windows XP
Sorry I was so unclear, I meant that I cannot download anything at all. When I click download the box comes up and disappears instantly, and I don’t have newer versions of ActiveX or Java which are required to do an online virus scan and Norton doesn’t work so I’m screwed trying to get rid of the virus.
I will gladly get rid of Norton, since it doesn’t even work anyways, to get avast!..That’s the whole problem, I’m pretty sure I have a virus but Norton doesn’t work and I can’t download a different antivirus program because…well, I can’t download anything. This includes ActiveX and Java that I need so I could run an online antivirus
Is there anything I can possibly do to fix this, short of taking it to a computer shop? Like e-mailing avast! or AVG from my laptop ( it downloads just fine) and running it on this comp.
