Just did a boot scan. One Suspicious File was found. I was given two options: Ignore or Delete. At the top of the notification screen it asked me to send the file to Avast.
I couldn’t find an answer in the knowledgebase about how to send the file to you without making a choice between Ignore or Delete. Crossing my fingers I chose Delete hoping it would send it to the Virus Chest or at least the Recycle Bin. Then I could send it to you from one of those locations. I can’t find it anywhere now.
For future information, what should I have done?
As best as I can remember, it was in my Documents folder and was a toolbar…Global(Something)Toolbar I think. Wish I would’ve taken a screen shot! Doh! ???
Deletion really isn’t a good choice unless you are 100% certain and you weren’t.
Ideally it should have been done like this - If you reboot it should alert again after 8 minutes the anti-rootkit scan runs and it is that which I believe was the alert, see image, was it like this ?
If so, I don’t think there is an option in the Advanced options to submit the file for analysis.
So until you have 100% confirmation this is bad and not just suspect you should use Ignore, dont check the Do not tell me about these files in the future, as you have no way of telling if it is subsequently considered OK.
Look in the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\DATA\report\aswBoot.txt or C:\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast\DATA\report\aswBoot.txt file (depends on how avast was installed or updated), check this file using notepad and copy and past the info on the detection.
