Suspicious Files found Again

Hi

For the last 4 days everytime I start the Pc I keep getting a message telling me that Avast

(Free version) has found suspicious files. The choice is set to ignore or if you click the dropdown box delete. If you select go it sends it to Avast for inspection.

The file is Documents/Settings/All users/Application Data/Microsoft/Microsoft Antimalware/
Definition Updates. I have now started to get a similar message but this time it says the files are in all users

My system is Xp/ SP3/ set to auto updates from Microsoft/ Microsoft Firewall enabled/
Microsoft security Essentials and Avast Free which has just updated to the most recent version. The problem was also happening before the update.
I know I have 2 security suites running but have had no problems for months and was lead to believe they are compatible with each other.

Would be greatful if anyone can help and hopefully guide me how to rectify the problem as im probably at a bsic level with pc skills

Thanks

Eddie

choose send to avast and ignore, then the file remain on your system and will be checked by avast.
If you delete you have no options left, if it proves to be malware avast will add detection for it and it will be detected again, this time with a malware name and moved to the chest

anyway in your case it is not malware

The file is Documents/Settings/All users/Application Data/Microsoft/Microsoft Antimalware/Definition Updates
Microsoft security Essentials and Avast Free which has just updated to the most recent version.
So this is avast detecting the signatures to Microsoft security essentials as malware This is what happens when you have installed to AV programs on your comp

Never install two antivirus (see reply from quietman7)

So you need to uninstall one of the programs…

If you want an extra scanner, use this

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
always update the program so you have lates database before you scan
click the remove selected button to quarantine any infections found

Hi, I’ve been getting this exact same problem the last few days too. I too have MS security essentials ,but the notice that appears says anti-malware…i wonder if it’s anything to do with this or not?!

I have also been getting the heuristic message, usually after I have booted on and it is getting very annoying - how do i turn it off??? I have tried each of the options each time but the message keeps turning up and I will change from avast to someone else if i can’t find a solution. Thanking you in anticipation miaq

Do you use MSE? If so, sooner or later you’ll got problems with avast as both are in conflict.
Choose between MSE and avast!
Only one antivirus at a time.
