symantec page newby question

Hi,
Sorry if this question is too basic for this forum but, I was told that to really check if I had a virus in my computer I could run this test by going to:

http://security(dot)symantec(dot)com/sscv6/home.asp?langid=ge&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=BKIHSBZEBNNZXTIZQSL

Avast detected it as malware right away and ask me to switch off my connexion (so it said in a warning window).
I opened this page in another computer protected with mcaffee but mentioned nothing of the sort.
So, the question is was there anything wrong with the symantec page? Do I have to worry about my computer?
Thanks,
leon

THE ABOVE IS AN ACTIVE LINK TO A VIRUS

Leon,

Please edit your post so the link is not active.

secutiry (dot) symantec (dot) com/ …

would be fine.

and, no question is too basic, but there are good ways and not so good ways to post the question.

Yes, the avast! Web Shield does block the virus as I discovered when I clicked the link (yeah, I should have known better).

So to answer your question, if yours is the computer with avast! then you should be ok. If you have the McCaffe pc with no detection then you might have a problem.

Mauserme, sorry for posting the link that way and thanks for the reply.

You can click the Modify button of the post and edit the link you posted like in the example that mauserme gave.

Welcome to the forums, leon!

Thank you for modifing the link. It is a mistake some make who are not use to posting in forums. Well, it lease not use to posting in this forum where we like to be safe.

Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.

No harm done, Leon. Just a little adrenaline rush when the warning popped up …

BTW, you might want to check that McAffee machine a little closer. If you don’t want to remove McAffee and install avast! you could try scanning with the free version of BitDefender just to play is safe.

If the computer with McAfee did not detect the virus in that link, then it is most likely infected. :frowning:
