My systray resident scanner icons will not (usually)appear in the sys tray …i have tried using ashdisp.exe…also the resident scanner(when it appears) will not keep the slider at custom, even though i can access it…the avast scanner program keeps the resident scanner at dissabled!
…I have unistalled and reinstalled/updated avast to v.7.1074…
Any ideas ???..i have used avast for many years, so i don’t know what the problem is, i would hate to lose it… thanks…[W98se ,666Mhz, 600MB ram, 12 GB hd…i don’t install webscaner, just standard resident scanner]
Maybe some hidden virus is deleting your avast files…

You probably still have an infection, probably a rootkit on your system that is killing avast.

After running the above rootkit tools if nothing is found try these.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.
AVG anti-spyware or SUPERantispyware or Spyware Terminator.
I don’t know if some of those anti-rootkit tools will work with win98se, the same is true with the anti-spyware tools.
a-Squared free On-Demand only with free version(if using win98/ME).
What avast processes are running when you do the three finger shuffle (Ctrl+Alt_Delete), they begin with ash or asw ?
When you use ashDisp.exe to get the icon in the systray, does avast appear to work normally, e.g. the icon rotates and files are being scanned ?
