SysInft_16.dll False Positive or Virus?

Did a scan and this showed up: SysInft_16.dll Program Files (x86)Intel\Intel… Win32:Malware-gen. From what I gather the above has been in my PC since 2010 and it was never flagged before.

I think it may be a false positive but the avast scan did show it as a virus.

First time ever that something like the above showed up. Have been virus and F/P free for 10 years and therefore am a total noob in this.

Can you please confirm whether it is a false positive or a virus and what to do next? Thank you.

Test the file at VT (https://www.virustotal.com) and post the link to the result here.

As I thought, seems to be a false positive. What to do next? It must be up to Avast to fix the F/P. What do I have to do in this case? Thanks.

PS: Funny, the date of the FP is 2010 while I acquired this PC in Dec of 2011.

Hi Pondus, As per your request have done so. Thanks. Just to wait now until Avast fixes it, correct?

Yep.

Do you have any idea how long it would take to fix it as I did a scan just now and the F/P comes up again.

Rojan Piya wrote me that I would hear from him but have not heard back from him since July 3 @11.25 am.

Thanks

As it’s weekend, be patient…

Thanks Asyn. When I submitted the F/P it was (in my local time) about 12:30 AM Friday morning. It says in the link that Rojan Piya provided and where I could reply to him that that particular link would be open for 48 hours only. So am worried that I won’t be able to reply to him if that link will be removed. Since this is my first experience with a F/P it gave me quite a shock. :o :o Never had a F/P or a virus showing until this one. Am in my mid seventies… and a real noob.

You’re welcome. And don’t worry, it will get fixed.

Thanks Asyn. Just now I did a scan and no new virus/FP showing up again so it must have been fixed? I still have that item showing in the virus chest. So my next question is: how do I remove it from the virus chest as there are several options available such as Delete and Restore. I don’t have a clue which one to pick. Or do I leave it well alone?

Thanks again for your anticipated answer.

As it’s not detected anymore, you can safely restore it.

Asyn, thank you so very much for all your help. All seems to be ok now.

You’re welcome.
