System Alert Pop up

Hi. I am new here. Today while going around the internet I suddenly got a download that started and the virus song or alarm came in. I hit the delete sign a couple of tome but something downloaded into my computer. It kept prompting to download a spy program called Spy … something and a free scan. I deleted that part but still I am getting a system alert pop up in the status bar, this one just keeps coming on every few minutes. I tried the add and remove but it is still there. As for know it is running Avast full scan.
My computer is a sony vgn u750p, windows xp pro, all the last upgrades were instaled yesterday feb 13/07. I am using opera although sometime I use explorer at the moment of the incident I was on opera. I have spybot that showed 21 problem and were fixed, last night there were none.
Like I said I am new and not that computer friendly since I see you guys talking about hijacking and other name or going into msconfig or something, so please be patient. As I am writing this avast finished and came clean. Still I have the pop up coming on.
The question is how can I get back to normal on this??? Thanks

Welcome to the forum, playero2007.

If its that Spy… Something program that’s giving you the pop ups try the free version of Rogue Remover

http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php

the name would be spydawn. Thanks I will try that

i think the program is not there but there is a system alert pop up every 5 or 6 minutes. The scan did not show anything??

The program might not be there the pop-ups are trying to scare you into visiting a site installing some solution to the problem that will probably bring more of the same or to get you to pay for a program.

The rogueremover should remove the pop-up alerts if it is one it detects.

If you can post a screenshot of the alert it may help in identification.

Spydawn is not in the list of detections for RogueRemover but SmitFraudFix should take care of it.

Bleeping Computer has background information and a good tutorial here

Just follow the directions for automatic removal and let us know how it gets on.

how would I post a screen shot

You can use Fast Stone to capture and save the image to your hard drive

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/fsscreen.html

Then upload the image to Image Shack

and copy/paste one of the Hotlinks for Forums into your post.

Or that ::slight_smile:

this is wat i get

I tried MAUSERME sugestion from beeping computer and aparently that one is working. At least the computer is in safe mode checking the disk cleanup thing. I will wait a couple of second or minutes until it stops

apparently all is ok since I could not find the program or file anywere yet. Thanks to you guys for being cool and great. Thanks

And the pop ups have stopped?

EDIT: I wonder if you could post a larger screen shot.

yes I check add and remove and system alert is not there. I check on c; but could not find any trace that i recall. Here is the add again.

anyway so you guys know. It appears on the bar which I have to the right side instead of the bottom. The small logo is a help sign similar to msoft help. blue round circle with the question sign. this all of a sudden pops up and says system alert ; system has detected a number of active spyware applications that may impact the performance of your computer. Click the icon to get rid of unwanted spyware by downloading an up-to-date antispyware solution This is what it says. If u clik it will send u to the spydawn page for download and input ur information.
It also appears in the add and remove programs but when remove it says to reboot and it comes back.

This is a rogue program trying to get you to install/pay to resolve a non-existant problem.

A new tool RogueRemover, available from Rubber Ducky here http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php

David R it went away with the beeping… that MAUSERME said. I was just posting so that other people could relate to what were the signs. Also Thanks for your input

Thanks, sorry I didn’t go over the first page again and thought you were reporting the problem again.
