My Avast program says:
“system cannot find the file specified”
c:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashSimple.exe
It was working fine. Then this happened. What do I do?

Try a repair of Avast.
start > control panel > software > add/remove > Avast > change

A bit simpler method is to just double click on the Avast line in the Add/Remove menu. This brings up the options list. Slide down to the last one which is Repair.
PS: Eddy was correct in that sometimes, you can click Change first, then Repair.
Both accomplish the same thing.
