how can I restore system.dat from chest folder?
(using command line (MS DOS) )
system.dat is the Registry system file.
Putting it back will likely causing windows problems.
But if you really want to put it back and take the risk…
Use the copy, xcopy or move command.
Commnad line options for copy
Command line options for move
Command line options for Xcopy

Do a repair of windows.
- Put in the windows 98 cd
- boot from it
- install windows over the excisting one
thnks for support
If you do as I suggested (the repair), you will not loose your data and you will be able to do the rest from within Windows.
But don’t put back system.dat !!!
The repair will create a new one.
After the repair visit Windows Update and install all security patches/updates.
