System hangs at aswRvrt.sys when booting

I have a computer running Windows Vista that hangs when booting on aswRvrt.sys. A search revealed this is an avast file. I have run startup repair twice and chkdsk /r 3 times with no change. Safe mode hangs on that sys file every time regardless of type and normal boot just restarts each time. I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Have you tried to boot into Safe Mode ?
Do you have Vista Recovery CD by chance ?
Do you have Vista O/S CD by chance ?

If you’ve tried Safe Mode and same result then go to this link and down to “if you can’t boot your computer”…follow instructions.

We need you to post/attach the FRST (FarBar) log.
I will PM for expert but he will want to see log.

I have tried all types of safe mode. Makes no difference. I do have a Vista home disc and a Vista recovery disc. FRST log file is attached.

I PMed Essexboy.

Hi there, this may take two or three tries or it may fail altogether. No guarantees I am afraid

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Start FRST as before and press Fix
On completion try a normal boot

No change. Normal just re-boots and Safe Mode hangs at the same file. Log file attached. Thanks for your help by the way.

Run this one next, if it fails to boot could you let me know what file it stops at

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Start FRST as before and press Fix
On completion try a normal boot

Will do. Doing it now.

Now it stops at \Windows\System\drivers\crcdsk.sys. Log attached.

Alas it seems as though a windows file is at fault and a re-install may be required

First…get ALL your data off your PC before you start playing around with O/S.

Here is thread on crcdsk.sys in Vista boot problem…think it is worth the read…

Before you re-install O/S since you have a O/S disk and a Repair disk…

Here is the how-to on Vista startup repair.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-windows-with-windows-startup-repair/

Additionally, you may want to do a SFC (system file check) to try to repair Windows too…in this case called “offline”.
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows
Here is the overview…http://pcsupport.about.com/od/termss/p/sfc-command-system-file-checker.htm
It is important in the Command Prompt to ID the drive letter your Windows is “shown” on…it may not be c: as it would in normals Windows boot.

You also from FRST log have a lot of Restore Points…XP & Vista not the best at these working but something else to try.
