Hi
This is all new to me so please bare with me,I tried stating in safe mode no difference also i still have etrust anti virus on my system it won’t remove
Can you describe the crash message a little bit more?
What does it say?
What do you mean etrust cannot be removed? What did you do to uninstall it?
my computer goes to sleep no matter what im doing add & remove programs would not remove etrust
@ becky
contact Etrust for removal instructions.
Running two anti-virus programmes will almost always lead to problems. Once you have removed it and successfully installed avast! let us know.
I have a similar problem . I only have avast but i cannot run a complete scan. My computer always shuts down somewhere in the middle of the scan. When i tried panda free scan , the same thing happened as well as with AVG. The problem appeared yesterday.
Into the Screen Saver properties, could you see if your ‘Energy’ settings are not wrong, telling the computer to shutdown.
Other problem, Go to Control Panel > System > Inicialization … and disable ‘automatic restart’. Maybe you’ve got an error but the computers boots meanwhile. After correcting the error, we can change back this setting.
Are these antivirus installed in your computer at the same time?
Panda is well know for leaving trash behing its uninstallation.
Tried what you suggested, didn’t help. Could it be a virus that shuts my system down? No virus programme seems to be able to perform a full scan.
Could be but I think it’s a hardware incompatibility.
To be sure, can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Are you using Windows XP?
I hope so, then start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
Yes, I’m using Windows XP but excuse my stupidity :what’s boot-time scanning?
You don’t have to ask for pardom… this is a help forum
Boot time scanning is a scanning done ‘before’ windows loads (after boot and before Windows loads, logon…).
So no files are being used and you can scan ‘all’ files freely.
This way we can know that there is virus (or not).
You will schedule it, boot, and you’ll see a blue screen with avast scanning your system.
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
Well, if one doesn’t have to feel ashamed about not understanding, i have to admit: i don’t understand a word anymore. before window loads?
I was able to perform a normal 'short’scan, but not a thorough scan or ‘long scan’.
Pelle, just follow the instructions and you’ll ‘see’ what I’m trying to explain.
Can you follow this?
- Start avast! (right click the ‘a’ blue icon on the system tray near to your clock, then choose ‘Start avast…’)
- Wait the skin load…
- Right click the skin. A menu will pop-up.
- Choose ‘Schedule a boot-time scanning’. A new window will pop-up.
- Choose to scan all your fixed disks (hard disks) and check for scanning archives.
- Click ok. You’ll be prompted for booting.
- Boot.
- See avast boot time scanning…
:)Thanx for elaborating. I did that and no viruses ware found, but i 'm afraid that doesn’t solve my problem or is that the way i have to run my virus scan from now on?
No the boot-time scan is very helpful, as the scan is started before windows and any virus/malware that gets into memory or is running when you are trying to get rid of it.
You haven’t yet done as ‘whocares’ suggested in the first reply to your post. I suggest you do as he suggests as this will give us a lot of useful information.
