Hi all, i have a Windows 2000 system and recently updated my verson of avast to 4.5. However, ever since this has been updated my system keeps re-booting by itself. Sometimes its straight away, sometimes after 5/10 mins, sometimes half hour. Can anyone possibly help???
What kind of reboot is that? Bluescreen?
Check the WinNT\Minidump folder (if it’s there) - does it contain any recent files (corresponding to the time of the reboots)? What build of avast! are you running?
Hi I’m new here so bear with me…
The same thing happens to me…but it is when I run the scan that it seems to reboot…it doesn’t even finish the scan.
OS XP home
Just updated avast 4.5.523
Yes there are new dmp files corresponding with the reboot.
Thanks for any help.

Please send the dump files to my email address. Thx
BTW are you sure you’re using build 4.5.523 (and not 4.5.518)?

It is on it’s way.
Yes I am sure about the build.
Thanks again.

pixie, you’re using AVG and Avast on the same machine? Not a good idea!
You must not do this - you must choose either avast or AVG.
That was one of the dumps.
The second one seems to be related to something very different - audio handling. Namely, in KS.SYS.
Since you don’t have SP2 installed, this MS KB article seems to be directly related to this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=812035

Thanks for your help Vlk…I have removed AVG…I was trying to wait until I had to reformat to install SP2 because the first time I did it messed up my computer…looks like I waited long enough.

Hi
I have the same problem with rebooting about every 10 mins - but not when I’m actually using the computer. I think it may be connected with VRDB generator - I’ve not yet succeeded in generating a VRDB
XPhome SP2 build 4.5.523 (AVG recently removed!)
There are no errors in the Avast log, but there is a minidump file for each reboot.
Thanks for any help
Just send some of the minidumps to my email address.
thanks
Vlk
