system mechanic

system mechanic will no longer let me do a full optimisation and blames Avast and your updates. Is this true

blames avast how? … any error messages … from what program and what does it say?

i suppose you mean that, when you try to defragment files on your harddrive, it is reported that some files could not be defragmented?

with the avast program installed, when i defragment files on my harddrive, the defragmenter reports that some files could not be defragmented…

if that is the “problem”, i don’t think that it is anything to worry about…

on another note, i think it is a good idea to disable an av-program’s realtime-protection when defragmenting files…

Best thing you can do is uninstall system mechanic as it is garbage and will screw things up eventually. All programs like system mechanic are dangerous and i would advise just using ccleaner.

Providing you don’t use the registry cleaner component within Ccleaner.

never had a problem with it…
i also use Eusing free reg cleaner, and it does a much more thorough clean then CC … still no problem

but i have used system mechanic twice (years ago) and both times it ended with a reinstall

More thorough does not always mean more safer.

I’ve never had an issue with running CCleaners registry cleaning component as with Eusing it has been trouble free and I’ve never once had a problem with it on the many systems I’ve used it on, it’s the only thorough registry cleaner I would recommend but it still pays to be vigilant and review everything that it wants to clean and also use the registry backup included ( not that I’ve ever needed it  )

Just sharing my experience. Many do not support/condone using the “all in one” OS maintenance/Registry cleaners. Although CCleaner seems to be accepted.
Now I have been using JV16 power tools on my OS’s for well many years and I personally have never had any issue or problems from the use of this software and found the benefits effective.
I don’t recommend the use of any of these programs as some people have had devastating negative experiences.
Each to their own.

Since not using a registry cleaner doesn’t adversely effect your computer and,
since using such a tool, could wind up with an un-bootable system, the choice is yours.
After all, it’s your computer that’s at risk.
The amount of time that these programs save in the boot up process is measured in milliseconds,
so hurry up and speed up that system.

You do not make much sense at all. Why asking us if System Mechanic blames Avast (and the updates) for not being able to do a full optimization scan? If you have both installed, only you can tell if you get a error message or anything like that when running System Mechanic.

CCleaner is the most reliable, though i have very good experience with Wise Registry Cleaner (if you select to show safe entries only). Never had issues with it which i can’t say the same for others. Plus it also comes in portable package which is nice.

It’s not so much the speed Bob, more of an elimination of conflicts as there are usually hundreds to thousands of leftovers in the registry after removing/upgrading programs and cleaning out these leftovers can help in system stability, avast for one but not alone leaves a ton of crap in the registry which I like to remove before upgrading to newer versions.

As mentioned previously always use the registry backup that is provided in these programs before deleting anything.

A backup is nice but doesn’t help if you can’t boot your system.
As I said, your computer, your choice.

That has been my experience also and as I stated, for me the benefits are measurable and effective.

As mentioned previously always use the registry backup that is provided in these programs before deleting anything.
Eusing does auto backup....no asking ;)

This is true  it’s CCleaner that prompts you if that box is ticked.
