Since Polonus recommends this free Russian program “System Safety Monitor” from http://maxcomputing.narod.ru I downloaded it (use the alternative link). In Russian and English; several other language packages.
Looks great !
The program has many functions, possibilities and settings.
Although I did not notice any problems running it - as yet - there could be some incompatibility in with other monitoring programs. Has anyone experienced this ?
Take care. It took automatical actions and could block legit programs to launch or work.
It will become a shareware in near future Right now it’s free.
Good you asked, as we say in Dutch “never go over one night’s ice”. When I add some program on my comp, it must be one that is decently reviewed. This SSM program I found mentioned on a well known security forum and this several times, so I think those guys must know what they use, and not favour a rogue program. Anti virus, anti spyware forum members are a bit paranoid, and that for good reasons. Yes the program has a limited free license until coming December. I am particularly happy with it because it asked permission for executables etc. that I did not know were involved in applications lime MS Word etc. In this way you see that Nero wants to connect to the Internet when you want to burn some CD (also your firewall indicates this, do not allow), when opening up a browser link from inside a mail program several processes involved, even listening to live radio creates a lot of business “under the hood”. You can tweak all these permissions. The way it works is a bit like in ZoneAlarm, it can learn all the way. I have it now for a while, and I cannot say a bad word about this,
You must be careful indeed: may block legit programs if settings are too strict. This is a very powerful monitoring tool 8) !
To use this program successfully you must be a somewhat knowledgeable user and read the quite extensive helpfiles in advance.
In the meantime I found others reviewers on the internet. They are either highly recommending this program or used previous versions with bugs. Some did not properly use it and had problems…
Yes, the programs least suspected are trying to contact their homebase ::). Why should Open Office (Sun Office 6) have to do this ? MS Office 2003 doesn’t. I block everything not needed and not entirely trusted.
Previous beta versions of System Safety Monitor also expired in December, only to be replaced by a new free version. Let’s hope the current one is not the last, although the author deserves a reward for all his efforts. He seems to have worked on this program for several years.
