A co-worker has brought in her personal computer for me to ‘fix’. She had no virus protection on it. It’s a PC with Windows 7. I have gotten rid of most of the malware. I have installed Avast. I tried running a scan in normal mode, but it just sat there at 0%. I am now running a full system scan in safe mode. It found 2 viruses immediately, but now it seems to be stuck. It is at C:\windows\system32\svchost.exe and it is just sitting there. What do I do at this point? Is it still working in some way? It’s been at this point for about a 1/2 hour. What do you guys advise?

Personally I would stop it and then check it out manually first, as the malware may be too deeply embedded to remove automatically
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
[*]Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
