System slowing down

Hi! everyone, new here
Since I updated my free version of Avast to v.5.0.594 a few days ago, I have noticed a distinct sluggishness to my pc ~ especially when using the Firefox browser. Anyone else experiencing this? and more importantly anyone know what might be causing it?

Which other security related software is running…?

I don’t see it, but we also don’t know much about your system, CPU, RAM, etc.

What was your previous version ?

Presumably whichever version was on release prior to this one DavidR ~ the update was set to auto. And it was definitely Avast that was causing the problem, I uninstalled it and my pc is running as I’m used to having it work… it’s a pretty fast machine.

Other security software on it?

Jetico Personal firewall 1.01
SpywareBlaster 4.3
MalwareBytes’ Anti-Malware

I don’t know if this firewall would conflict with avast, as I don’t know it… Anyone…!!?
The other programs should run fine together with avast.
Try a clean reinstall of avast.

  1. Run the uninstall utility in safe mode. http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
  2. Restart.
  3. Reinstall avast.
    Problem solved…??

Well it wasn’t causing any conflict prior to the update, and I’ve run them side by side for years. ???

This isn’t the only time I’ve read about Firefox slowing down a system.

Maybe you should uninstall Firefox & try Opera.

bruciebonus,

  1. Did the clean install help since you mentioned that you had upgraded from a previous version?

  2. What is your OS, RAM, CPU?

  3. What version of FF are you using and do you have more than 4 add-on? Too many add-ons can slow you down slightly.

  4. Is your firewall (FW) blocking anything for Avast to connect to FF? As mentioned earlier, I’m not aware of any conflicts or not with Avast and Jetico_Personal_Firewall, but you may want to uninstall it and use the Windows FW temporarily to see if this remedies the problem as a test. Disabling your current FW is not the same as uninstalling it for testing.

Many of us use the newest build of Avast 5.0.594 with FF with no problems, so we need your answers to help troubleshoot to fix your problem. Thanks.
