System Volume Information cannot be scanned

I have a 2nd hard drive in my new system setup that did not have this folder in it yesterday or midweek. The drive is F: and the path is F:system volume information and when I run an Avast scan, this folder contains this: WINZIP32.EX_. This folder/file cannot be scanned because of password protection. I was unable to move it to the Chest. What exactly is this file/folder called System Volume Information and why is it showing up today or even yesterday but not before? Is this part of system restore?

How can I scan this with this password protection that I did not give it? I tried doing a ‘search’ for this file after making sure hidden files are not hidden and system files are shown, etc. but this WINZIP32.EX_ is not found. I am going to try doing a boot scan after unchecking system restore as mentioned in an earlier post and maybe that can get rid of this. I don’t want this System Volume Information folder because if I cannot scan it for viruses, it sure can’t be healthy for my computer. Can anyone explain what this is and how I can keep it from being consistently reintroduced to my drive(s)? This F: drive is not my system drive, it’s where I store data files. Thanks in advance for ANY advice… katy

Disable system restore, reboot and the problem should be solved.

Here is me configuration : Windows home french edition with SP2.
I have a 80Go hard drive with 2 partitions : C ( for my OS and some softwares ) and F ( for softwares like Maxthon, … ).

In F, I also have a folder name System Volume Information. Hit Windows key and Pause at the same time, then choose “System Restore” and then you can select each drive for enabling/disabling restoration.

I only have restoration for drive C.

hmm, 80Go almost as common as 80Gs, nice units in France.
