System won't boot, safemode hangs on aswrvrt.sys

Left for vacation with my PC working fine, came home with it frozen and refusing to boot back up. It hangs at the “Starting Windows” logo. When I try to boot into safe mode, it hangs at “aswrvrt.sys”. It does not matter which type of safe mode I do.

System repair tool just hangs at a blue screen with the mouse.

Windows 7.

Frst64.exe text log attached. Comparing this log to other logs…something seems very wrong.

Thanks all!

So, it managed to boot up after running system repair (repaired corrupt disk). Any suggestions to make sure this doesn’t happen again?

From reading the FRST log and based on what you did to repair it. There are two possibilities:

Either the system was not shut down properly and the hives were corrupted
Or the bad windows update was loaded on your system prior to shutdown

You say “the” bad user update – is there one recently that was known to cause a similar problem?

Yes it was released in august and was supposed to have been pulled, but it does not appear to have been
