Task Manager

so yesterday i updated Avast, something i havent done in a while. i usually just kept my virus definition library updated. before playing an overdemanding game on my already mediocre notebook here, i would close unecessary programs, such as my antivirus, a nifty little temperature and systems monitor, and such. anywho, i know that if you “Stop On-Access Protection” it simply stops the services, the program itself is still running, therefore taking up valuable RAM. (nearly 12mb that it says in the Processes window)
i used to end the program and services manually, and just restart my PC after playing this demanding game.
but alas, here is my problem. after i updated, and went to go play this game i am getting a “The operation could not be completed. Acess is denied.” error.
if there is no way around it, is there some way of downgrading Avast!?

thanks for your time.

Really, stopping the services will disable the antivirus.
The amount of RAM shown into Task Manager is NOT an indicative of the real memory being used. You need to see Virtual Memory column (which is hidden by default, but you can show it).
I really do NOT recommend you to close the icon on system tray as you will have a lot of work to get it back and enable your antivirus again. But you can… ::slight_smile:

To temporarily disable the avast self defense module:

  1. Right click the ‘a’ blue icon on system tray.
  2. Programs settings > Troubleshooting (tab)
  3. Disable self defense module.
  4. Kill the ashdisp.exe process.
