Hello! I worte about that to Windows 7 forums but with no success. I should ask here straight away because this (Avast’s) forum is the most kind and helpful one I’ve ever read on the whole www. No kidding!
Here’s my problem, what do you think, anyone else has it etc.?

Not seen that one before, try running in aero mode and see if the problem returns.
I really dislike aero mode, that’s why I use the classic mode. I’ll rather have that occasional “taskbar dirt” than aero mode. Thank you for the suggestion though.
You didn’t mention if using the aero mode cured the quirk ???
You could remove the show Desktop button on windows 7… I looked on Bing and found this http://www.technixupdate.com/remove-hide-or-disable-peek-at-desktop-button-in-windows-7-taskbar/ (Note: Use the program the site talks about at your own Risk! I haven’t tried cause i like the show desktop button

Yes that was the goal of my suggestion, only takes two seconds to change it back to classic.
@ Bob & Craig: OK, I changed the theme, now it’s aero and I’ll have to use it a day or two like that… I suspect that there will be no problems that way but that doesn’t help me because I like to use the classic theme. I’ll leave it on aero and see how it works. Thank you for the suggestion.
@ Mario: I like the Show desktop button too and don’t want to remove it.

Did you try to use bigger icons for the taskbar instead of the small ones?

I think the intention of the suggestion was not just to use the aero theme, but to reboot, use it, see what happens (if the behaviour is correct), then change it back to classic, reboot and keep testing with the classic theme again.
At least, that’s how I understood it.
Hehe OK, I see, I’m doing that now. I hope that the problem would be gone, if not I’ll post here again.
@ Soaked: I like the small icons, don’t want the big ones.
Thank you all!
Unfortunately it’s all the same again with the Classic mode back on.
Any idea what else could I try?

Can you possibly post a screenshot of this dirt! the picture on the link isnt very clear and it might help us to understand better if we can get a good look at it.
Well that dirt is all there is. Maybe sometimes a wider line, or sometimes two lines… But that’s it. Seems innocent but it gets on my nerves. Here’s the same shot again:

Almost looks like the shadow of the TrafficLight tool only in the wrong spot.

It appears in random places on the taskbar. Always on the upper side of the taskbar I think. It looks like a little line that is left after an info square that appears when you place the mouse pointer over an icon or file (a square with info like size etc.). But that taskbar “dirt” appears even if no such info squares were displayed. Not such a big deal but a pain in the *** none the less…
