taskbar

when i first installed avast…it appeared in my taskbar on bottom right and on my startup…(start…run…msconfig)after that when i turn off the computer or restart its not there or on the startup programs…what is the problem…any help would be appreciated

The entry should be for ashDisp.exe, a temporary measure until we resolve this would be to create a desktop shortcut for this.

Have you got another AV installed (or did you) in this system, if so what (or how did you remove it) ?

What other security related programs do you have installed, e.g. AdAware, Spybot, SpySweeper, PrevX, or any programs that protect your system from new programs being added to the start-up folder, etc. ?

i got them back on the taskbar but when i go to updating i get a screen that say avast! antivirus setup…not enough user rights to continue…and i do have the retail versions of spy sweeper and ad-aware se plus…whats the problem???

With AdAware plus you have a resident element that may block the creation of start-up entries I believe (I don’t use it so I can’t say for certain). If so you will need to disable that, uninstall avast, reboot and install avast again.

SpySweeper in the past has falsely detected ashDisp.exe as malware lop.com and disabled it. Check and ensure this hasn’t happened.

What is your OS ?
I suspect XP, if so do you have multiple accounts ?

Sorry I’m calling it a night, almost 1 a.m. here, welcome to the forums.

i uninstall avast, then spy sweeper and then ad-ware and then installed the 3 in order i just mentioned and told ad-aware not to start up at start and i have turned off and restart at least 10 times and the avast is in the taskbar and start up(msconfig)run command…its working …

Wow, that’s a little more than I had in mind but I’m gald it has worked for you.
