I logged on to my home computer from work, using the WinXP Remote Desktop. I discovered that if I schedule a task using the Remote Desktop connection, the task never gets run, whereas if I do the same locally, it works fine.
OS: WinXP pro, with all the updates and patches

I have probably found the bug and make some fix to it. I will test it and let you know…
