Tech challenged senior needs help with Avast slowing computer

Hope I am explaining the problem correctly. I have Avast Pro 2015, just updated, and have suspected that it considerably slows my computer – opening files, downloading, etc. Since the latest update it has gotten much worse. The Avast icon is constantly spinning, even affecting typing and games, which are “jumpy.” Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 minutes to connect to Amazon or some other website. When I disabled Avast temporarily, things speeded up amazingly, so I know the problem is Avast.

Someone please help me! (In very, simple, terms! :-[ )

Have you tried reinstalling Avast!?

What is your OS?
Any other security software you have now or ever had?
(Firewall, anti-spyware, etc.)
If uninstalled how was it removed?
The reason we ask is sometimes there might be a software conflict which could be the culprit.

You could try a repair…Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click “avast”>click “repair”>reboot.

Please answer the above questions whether or not you tried the repair.

I have tried replying to you twice, but unable to post. No other anti-virus software. Windows Firewall - no avast Firewall installed. Tried avast repair. No difference. Have emailed customer service 2ce - no response. Going to uninstall and purchase Panda on recommendation of others. avast is no longer in top 5 of recommended programs, and I can understand why. Thank you for your assistance. I am very disappointed in avast. >:(

I wouldn’t have gone that far. Things get complicated :-(.

It was probably an issue with the firewall.

I didn’t mean just antivirus software. I meant any and all other security software.
For instance Super AntiSpyware can create issues if it’s resident. There are many
other software which could create conflicts.
