• Because of the webforum community that is unique for this product (other av vendors can only dream about such a community base),

• Because of the information base here,

• Because of the millions of users worldwide, and because it has not let me down over the years,

• Because it offered me the opportunity to learn a lot about malware, analysis of malcode, malware removal, script security, and integrated in-browser security as a few of the topics that take my special interest,

• Because of all the friends I have made here that have fed me with loads of insight and really have built me over the years, that’s it in a nutshell, again thanks to all of you here,

I was afraid to post here as there are a lot of reasons to be here. Some of them difficult to express in words.

No offense meant, just curious, I need the spell checker many times here because neither English nor French is my native language, but I can make myself understood in a couple of languages (Dutch (my native language), English, French, German, Polish), and we are very lucky to-day to have Google translations and if you work it you can even understand Japanese, when they quote you there… etc.

But i can say google translate is great. It did helped with some spanish guys on this forum and it easy to use/understand in this time. Because of Google Translation. ;D

PS : Some time its good to be curious but not so much as there some limit that can break my right… I think you know what i mean.

Mr.Agent, I’m not efficient with so many languages as polonus is but I can understand that it is from pure intellectual curiosity from a foreign language learners. Also, writings reflect personalities and, inevitably, writers’ backgrounds, which makes it thought to separate it from privacy issue at times. Sorry if you felt your right violated.

As for the claims that this thread is off topic, I cannot understand the claim. Reading what bob3160 wrote (I chose his comment simply because the other person, or CharleyO didn’t mention his reasoning), I think he feel the thread appears to be fanboy/gal-ish. Then, how about changing the title to why do you choose Avast! Or something like that…?

I don’t think it matters but some people complained of its being “off topic.” Personally, I found it interesting to see quite many people, including me, found the community is one of the reasons. I think this is related with the fact that Avast! developed as probably one of the most customizable anti-virus applications and that friendly and patient staff kept the community well, which involved quite many people who are interested in this product. It’s simply interesting for me to see a real example where applications are not simply commodities but they can include wider range of “services.”

I’ve used numerous freeware AV programs through the years. Some were good, some were a royal pain in the a** and others were flat out terrible. AVG assigned all the .bin files in my system to itself. Didn’t like that, ripped it out. Panda made a mess out of my system and even after uninstalling, cleaning the registry it STILL showed up in Services. Then I heard about Avast. Thought I’d give it a spin. That’s been a long time ago and I’m still happy with it. I’ve recommended it to friends, all that switched are still using it. All are happy with it.

The ‘voice’. My mom was visiting me and all of a sudden out pops the ‘voice’, “Virus database has been updated”. Freaked her out, thought she was going to jump off the couch. ;D

I also missed to add a other option. But if you guy like other thing from ALWIL Software you can say it in this thread.

PS : I also like the ALWIL Members they are very respectful. ;D Also never had any problem with my computer. I had Kaspersky,Norton and Mcafee and so far i find Avast! better and really nice.
