Hi, new user (WIN98-II), happy so far but with one complaint. Avast leaves quite a few files (JET1XXX.TMP) and some folders in C:\Windows\TEMP. When I tried to delete them after rebooting, Windows wouldn’t let me delete a couple of them and I crashed the program and had to reinstall. Since TEMP collects folders from lots of programs there is a need to delete the contents every once in awhile. Is there a way to port Avast’s files/folders to a new or different folder (including a registry hack if necessary)?
Thanks for that link Alan - very helpful thread. I created a new registry entry and new folder, TEMP_avast!, and it seems to be working, but as the thread discusses, HTTP (JETXXXX.TMP) files still accumulate in the TEMP folder. From what I can see, there are two “live” JET files for the current session and the others are from previous sessions and can be deleted. If this is correct, then would it be possible to design the JET files such that they expire and self-delete from the TEMP folder after the current session, or say 24 hours after the current session?
They are “designed” this way - the old files should be removed automatically. If they are not, you probably have some problems with Microsoft Jet drivers (old, corrupted, …)
Changed “Database=_” from ODBC to XML in the Avast4.ini file, and that seems to have done the trick for the Home Version.
It would, when you switch from ODBC ot XML it is no longer using MS JET so no JETXXXX.tmp files in use period.
