temp folder _avast_

I just create an account here because i checked out my Windows/temp/avast folder and there are 1.900 tmp files inside.
Can I just delete them? or they are important for something?

I don’t know why there would be so many in yours, mine as 109 files most are 0KB and a max of 494KB, for me that isn’t an issue (1.54 MB (1,614,854 bytes). Have you recently done an install and or a program update ?

What Avast Program/s do you have installed ?
What is the date span of these files ?

Why this location is used rather than the C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log folder is beyond me. Even trying to open it results in an error, so it looks like it it protected by the Avast Self Defence Module.

I just have the free antivirus program.
The date of all those file envolve these two last months.
(nsfsp000000000A.tmp,…)
Also I didn’t install any other program (since my HD its in his last days), but the windows update has work a lot in these period.

I also have a boat load.
I’ll be reporting it to Avast.

Hi guys, there’s a fix in the beta version…

Dev-Info: One hundred files is normal (expected, kinda minimum unless the machine hasn’t been doing much since it booted). But there can be more - it’s basically related to the number of connections scanned by Web Shield at the moment. So if there are many connections (many tabs in browser(s) or other software communicating with some websites), the number can be higher.

But there are also issues in the Beta, which compared to the files in the windows temp Avast folder are more of an issue in my opinion.

Hi Dave, this was meant as a FYI not an invite to install the beta. Anyway, the latest beta runs stable/smooth here. 8)

Beta versions are also not recommended for the average user.
IMHO, the average user should only use a beta version to overcome a severe problem
which this is not.

I asked about auto clearing of those files and received the following reply:
Those over a hundred are removed when the underlying internet connection is closed (of course, other connections can be opened on between, so they can be just switched for new ones). Those below a hundred are kept (as empty files) while Avast is running (i.e. under usual circumstances they’re kept until reboot - and after reboot, when you e.g. start your browser, new ones are created).
