Hey all,
Before the installation of Vista WindowsUpdate SP2 (and several reboots during that installation), I’m going to temporarily disable the avast! program. Right-clicking on the avast! icon in the system tray and then clicking on the “Stop On-Access Protection” in the context menu, will temporarily disable avast!. However, after rebooting, the avast! program re-activates during the startup. Is there a way to have avast! stay disabled through the entire installation process including a couple of update reboots that occur during the installation?
Any info is appreciated.
I don’t think there is. You may be advised to uninstall it. I’d only do this after you’ve done all the downloading you need to do for this project, so that you don’t need to be connected during installation/reboot etc. Re-install the program before going online.
You might need to download the Avast uninstall utility if there are any problems uninstalling from the control panel. Normally these problems can be overcome by selecting program settings>troubleshooting and disabling the self defense module.
Thanks for the reply Tarq57.
Yea, I wasn’t sure if there was a way to have avast! disabled through an entire Windows Update installation and several reboots. However, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to uninstall avast! prior to the installation due to the Vista SP2 being installed via WindowsUpdate.
I see no reason to disable avast! during Vista SP2 installation. I haven’t disabled it on 2 systems and it installed just fine (one Vista x86 and one x64 system).
