Temporarily Disabling avast!

Is there a way to temporarily disable avast! from auto running when Windows starts. I don’t want to uninstall.

I know I can stop On-Access Protection by right clicking the icon in the taskbar but avast! restarts when I do a reboot.

I want to carry out some testing on my system that will require me to reboot from time to time and so I’d like to stop avast! from starting each time.

I won’t be online during this period so the lack of protection will not be an issue.

Thanks

Disable the four avast! Services (if you’re using XP) and remove the Registry Key (Startup).
If I were you, precisely when installing software I won’t disable avast.

Sorry but not sure I fully understand what you are telling me in your last paragraph.

I know how to disable the four avast services by right clicking the avast! icon.

I’ve looked at Start>Programs>Startup and there isn’t an entry there.

I’ve also looked at msconfig>Startup and the only entry I can see that looks like avast! is AshDisp. Is this the one or do I need to look elsewhere?

I think I’m right in saying that if I disable in >Startup it’s possible to re-enable at a later date???

Thanks

If you are running Win XP you can go to Start/Control Panel/ Admin tools/ Services/Right click on the Service you

want to stop /Properties/StartUp type/and select disable. You can enable the service the same way

Not advisable to turn off these services

Thanks a bunch, just what I needed.

Marvellous how many little shortcuts there are when you know how!!!
