As per question on the general board about multiple IPs running on AvastSvc after having to manually load updates. Attached are the files, I hope I did all 3 tests correctly and am posting them correctly as well. Thank you.
What I will do is reset the dns cache and other internet related settings. Once done could you try an update again
CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
CreateRestorePoint: CMD: netsh advfirewall reset CMD: netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state ON CMD: ipconfig /flushdns CMD: netsh winsock reset catalog CMD: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt CMD: ipconfig /release CMD: ipconfig /renew EmptyTemp: CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers
Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that
Here it is… not sure if you wanted directly here or as an attachment.
Updated virus definitions manually. Finally,
the direct IPs are from Avast, Google and a hosting service. There is still a lot of pinging back and forth… does that matter. Thank you so very much!

There should be a fixlog on your desktop which appeared after the FRST reboot could you attach that please
Hope this is what you need. If not, I may need to run again?
Any further problems
Something strange is also going on. I also check my statistics daily for my shields. For today, the 6th. it shows items going through the web shield and the file system shield; however when I check the historical data, it’s blank for both shields today. Hope you can make sense of the way I wrote that. I’ve never noticed this to happen before. In the virus updates it says the last update was 150205-1. Nothing for the 6th…
Maybe I am being paranoid… but in these days, one never be too careful.
No update has been released for today yet
Could you screenshot the stats page so that I can see it
Seems the stats page is working just fine today. Thank you so very much for your help with this. At my age, things are moving so fast and I try so hard to keep up… sometimes I get hit with something like this and I get very paranoid.
Have a great day!

PS: Should I delete all the test results?

I am back! There is still something NOT right. It says that all my shields are on in the settings tab and also when I go to active protection, however I noticed something strange. When I logged on my PC this morning, it said I wasn’t logged into Avast because it had been disconnected (not by me), so I logged in. Then I checked my account and it shows my one device, but up in the left hand corner it says shields are not on (with a little fit it! tab next to it) and neither are auto updates. Checking further into the info section of this device, it says they are all on! I went to virus updates and had to manually update again. It’s perplexing to say the least when 2 areas say “shields on” and 2 others show they aren’t. I am so sorry, but I don’t know what to do. :-
I am being so thorough because I keep my machine as protected as possible; besides my Avast Internet Security, I also run Malware-bytes Free often, I have a script protector and ad block on my Firefox browser (updated always), run privacy clean, when browser closes ALL history is cleared.
So Avast that is on your computer is reporting that all is good
Yet the account web page is showing them as off is that correct ?
Have you yet done a repair of Avast ?
Yes I did a repair when I noticed this today. What happened was worse! It said my Avast firewall wasn’t connected. So I “tried” multiple times to turn it on, but I couldn’t.
I had to restore to previous restore point ,only a few minutes earlier.
I shut it down for today. I’ll check back for your response tomorrow. This 64 year old grandma needs her nap now.
Thank you so very much for all your help. ???
OK we will now run a full re-install. When you get up that is ![]()

[]Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast
Sorry, got busy with other things yesterday. I do have one question before we do the reinstall. In my first post that Red nose responded to, I told him I have a virus (?) In the virus chest in quarantine. It’s actually Combo Fix execution file. Avast pulled it as a rootkit-gen.
Do I need to try and remove that file before proceeding with complete reinstall?
No need as a full re-install will remove the virus chest
HELP-- I have no clue what is going on now, but I followed your directions to the letter , but I am unable to update virus definitions. It stalls half way through download.
Essex boy you are so helpful, and I wish this new re-install did the trick. It didn’t. What next?
Download and install the latest definition file from here https://www.avast.com/en-gb/download-update
Then let me know how it is behaving… What firewall do you have ?
You may be able to hear me screaming. Back to square 1. The issue I had when I first posted and Rednose sent me is BACK.
I couldn’t download the updates from Avast site. Is it possible for my modem to be hijacked? After all the steps I went through yesterday, I noticed that my Internet was very slow.
Called my service provider Internet support, had them check it from their end. I about started crying when he said, " your connection is fine–it shows all 4 of your devices are connected. I only have 1 and that’s my desktop. My cell phone and others are a different provider.
So… Once again I had about 20 IP connections when I shut her down.
Firewall-- isn’t that part of my Avast paid. No one ever told me if you have Avast you need a separate firewall. I know it now though.
What to do next. Hope you have a good day.
