Thank You Avast!

To Avast Staff

I would like to start off by saying thank you to all staff involved with the Android Anti-theft development.

I bought my Samsung Galaxy S3 in October last year and thought it would be good to install avast mobile security and anti-theft and run through the setup to ensure that if something goes wrong I might still stand a chance. My phone was never insured since the insurance was basically the price of a new phone. On the 2nd of March 2013 my S3 was pick pocketed at a Samsung Galaxy S3 World Tour Music festival in South Africa…yes i know… the irony…

Anyways, Day after day I checked Samsung Dive (as i forgot I had Avast Anti-theft installed) to see if my phone was online to try and trace it but I figured that they would have changed the sim and my phone was lost forever.

On the 1st of May 2013, my wife got an sms from Avast Anti-theft that a Sim Change was detected on my phone, it was followed by a link to the location of my phone and all necessary information. I followed the link and located my phone in Zambia Lusaka, I phoned the police in Lusaka and within 45 minutes they were in possession of my phone and confirmed that it was still in a good condition. I sent them all the proof of purchase of my phone and they happily couriered my phone back to SA and it is due for collection from my local post office tomorrow.

I guess I am very lucky that they never wiped my phone and that Avast was able to located and help recover my stolen mobile.

Once aqain, thank you Avast! You are awesome!

Regards

Question: What are the additional features of having Avast Anti-theft installed on a rooted phone?

hello FridgeWheeL thats great to hear!! Maybe you want to write a small blog from a first-person view for blog.avast.com?

additional features on root:

  • hard-reset proof
  • force data connection to stay on
  • reboot command

Wow, those features sounds awesome.
I will most definitely take a chance to root my phone and install all the additional features!

Regarding the blog? what do I have to do?

just write a small article about your experiences and all you did to recover your phone and if you want, also send us a picture of yourself. I’ll then post it on our blog (several million hits a day :-)).

oh, lol, I will do that, minus the picture part, I’m shy on camera :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you once again!

come on

Please let me know if you have received my message
