Thank you page opens on start up of Chrome.

How do I keep this “thank you for installing” page from opening every time I start Chrome? I have tried setting the homepage to a specific page, but it still opens up in a 2nd tab.

Thank you for your reply, but my problem is not resolved. I have tried opening Chrome, closing the thank you page, then setting Chrome start page as the home page. I restart Chrome and the thank you page still opens, along with the page I have set as the home page.

Already done a system reboot?
What version of Avast?
What OS?

Yes, I have rebooted system. Version 8.0.1497 Windows XP

Also, watch this video on how this works!

Check your Chrome settings.

Yep, that was what I did, but it still opens the Thank you page. I know all I have to do is close the tab, but it really is annoying and slows down the opening of the start page.

mine is tic at Open new tab page … and when i open it, it opens only with one tab

I now have this same problem. When I open Chrome, a 2nd tab opens with the “Thank you for installing avast! Online Security” page.

I have checked and re-checked the Chrome settings and the Avast page opens in it’s own tab whether I have it set to “New Tab” or “Specific Page/s”.

Avast! Internet Security Version 8.0.1497
Avast! Extension: avast! Online Security 8.0.8
Google Chrome Version 30.0.1599.69 m
OS Win 7 SP1 64 bit

Thanks,
Marg.

Close the other tab. Only have the one tab open you want as your home page. Set that as your homepage. Its thats easy.

They have done this already. Something else is going on.

Nothing else is going on. It is that easy. Then simply click “reset browser settings” under advanced options.

Thanks SoccerFan707, I tried Reset Browser Settings and fixed the problem.

Marg.

Your welcome. Glad to have helped you when so many others could not.

I still have the same problem.

All “Reset Browser Settings” did was disable all my Extensions, so the Avast! Extension wasn’t enabled and so didn’t cause the new tab to open.

I enabled my Extensions and immediately, the new tab opened with the “Thank you for installing” page.

I installed the plugin so that I could browse safely, which cannot happen if the plugin is disabled.

Something else is going on.

Marg.
