When I boot up, the Avast icon in the systray has red line in it. If I click on it, I get this message: “avast!: The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.
The operation could not be completed.”
It will load up in 2 min if I don’t click on it, but it shouldn’t take that long. I have read and followed the instructions from another thread about making specific services automatic, but it hasn’t made any difference. This is frustrating since it holds me up. Are there any suggestions for a fix? ???
Do you have any other antivirus installed in your computer?
Did you have in the past? Which one?
RPC error is generally related to other antivirus present or, at least, firewall blocking. Do you use a firewall? Which one?
Anyway, RPC error is most likely correct by this procedure:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the pop up window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
Take a look into Administrative Tools > Services
and see how the three avast services are set to start (automatically or manual).
But like Eddy said, if you search the board you will find these answers 8)
The only thing I haven’t done, is uninstall Avast, and reinstall. I tried all of the other suggestions even before I posted.
I have no other antivirus, and am using Sygate firewall, which allows all of Avast functions. I’ve done a repair, checked Services, etc.
And now, when I reboot, sometimes I am getting an avast memory? error… The window doesn’t stay on long enough to copy it all down.
I don’t know what changed Avast from loading up right away to taking 2 or more minutes. I was hoping when it upgraded to 4.6 that it would have gotten corrected, but it didn’t.
