the antivirus test free edition

Hi, avast companions,

I have read the antivirus test free edition at this link here http://ssupdater.com/modules/Forums/index.php?showtopic=2592

avast got the second position there. Is a reliable test? best regards.

quotation:

“Welcome to the first SSUpdater.com Antivirus test FREE EDITION!!! As you will see we have tested a few paid versions and a few Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware programs on the same malware sample, and that should give everybody a clear perspective on what can be used as a security tool.We have stepped a bit further then before with our malware sample which contains 384.250 items and is the most “dangerous” sample ever made, and as you will see you DON’T need a huge sample (full of jokes) to prove some programs effectiveness.
We used the “finest” blend of Worms,Trojans,Backdoors,Windows Viruses, General Malware (18 types) and Unknown Malware as well as “Spyware”.

This test was conducted under VMware virtual environment and Windows XP SP2 fully updated, all the programs tested were fully updated and using full scanning capabilities with heuristic behavior and riskware defense .

Really hard to know. Not much info is offered about the testing methodology, nor much about the sample used, except to say “finest blend of worms, trojans…”
At best, if the sample is current, in-the-wild malware, it will give a fairly good indication of each application’s abilities on the day of the test, I guess.
These sorts of things are best used as a bit of a guide, IMO, and not necessarily conclusive at all.
For me the best guide has been: “how much malware have I had installed on my computer?” (Answer, none.)
Very subjective and limited sample, I know, but if you collected thousands of reports from real world users over a period of time, it would probably offer a more realistic result.

Well i really like the results of this test!

especially what “Littlebits” said:

Avast! deserves the SSUpdater Award for the most improvements. You never know this could become the best Anti-Virus software in the future is it keeps improving this much.

Avast - go for GOLD! - the next time it will beat AntiVir!

nice 8)

I don’t trust that site…

“finest” blend of Worms,Trojans… huh? ??? and thats it?

Most of the recent infections don’t even run on VM…

Someone from Alwil should create account there and check their Anti-Virus forums… Particularly avast! Professional & Home Edition topic… They are advertising avast pro and offering “fix”… actually its a keygen for avast pro which you can download it… You need to have account to access those forums. The keygen is hosted at mediafire.com

The fix rar has 5 files inside… I haven’t checked them… just noting the filenames:

Avast! Pro v4.7.1043_Keygen_CORE (NEW).exe
AvastKeygen.exe
KEYGEN-FFF.exe
avast_4.6_Kg.exe
keygen.exe

It looks like this:

Someone needs to shot down those kids…

it seems as if this site also offers all the viruses as a download for a “selfmade antivirus-test”…

there are links to rar-files which contain viruses… (didn’t try it myself, but its written in the posts…)

somehow macabre! :o
