THE "CLOUD" ???? WHY

looks like it maybe time to move on as avast is starting to follow the other “BIG BROTHERs”
have ditched several other programs because i couldnt run full scans of my pc without being online ??? makes for great security, and what happens when u cant get online ???
and according to several security experts that i have worked with it really does leave a security glitch when u have to do this, and besides that what else is being scanned at the same time ???
another reason i dont do any banking or bill paying online, ya i know the rest of u do it and have never had a problem, but i do know a couple of people that have have !!!
have had to disable the web shields so that i could acess several sites that i have been using for years !!! ( NO not porn sites) but a couple do have lots of GUN data and such, maybe another of O"BAMA’s political agenda creeping into the internet ??? WHY AVAST ???
I dont use any parental shield controls,. as i am the only one in the house and at 67 yrs yng dont think i need them anymore !!! and i think i may be a bit pc savey as i have been using pc’s since the only thing they were used for was crunching numbers ( ya i know most of you kids dont know what means  )
SOO WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO TO THE CLOUD ???

For Avast to scan and function you do not need to be online. The cloud update system is for small additions/changes between normal updates. The once or twice daily update will roll them all together anyway

Webshield will only block websites if there is something suspicious/malicious on them the actuall website itself is irrelevant

Disabling the webshield will leave you vulnerable as that is your first line of defence

Does that help any ?

You don’t “have” to go to the cloud, those services are extras. Nowhere are you told you “have” to be online to scan. In the GUI go to Support , top left there is an avast! help file .

Here >> http://www.avast.com/en-au/download-documentation you can find the user manuals. RTFM ;D

There are the streaming updates - which, as David said, make it possible to deliver some updates faster - but you still get the ordinary updates (usually twice a day), even if you disable it.
Then, there are the reputation services that provide important data for heuristic detections (i.e. improve some of the detections that way). Again, you can disable that functionality if you want.
As for why it needs to go to the cloud, the answer is simple: the amount of data is huge. We can’t deliver gigabytes of data to every user’s machine in every virus definition update, that’s technically impossible. That’s why the data is stored in the cloud, and the client machines only perform queries into that.

ok gentleman, ladies, please read my post again, i didnt say that avast didnt scan without being online, it a couple of other programs that are NOW that way !! and I HOPE that avast doesnt go way…
and yes i know that shutting down the shield is not safe but as i said i know the sites i do that for are safe !!! have been using them for years, when i surf i turn them back on unless i have reason not to.

And it takes one second for some of them to get hacked and one second more for you to get infected.
If you see the list of “good” and “inoffensive” sites that get infected status you’ll be very very surprised.
The only way is on access scanning (or an effective sandbox for the browser).

and yes i know that shutting down the shield is not safe but as i said i know the sites i do that for are safe !!! have been using them for years,,,,
and they are of course 100% hack safe ::)

Every 3.6 seconds a website is infected

Hi bikerdon,

The folks here that do the checking on avast shield alerts, can tell you that for the larger part all these alerts were found to be genuine.
Are you sure that all your OS and third party software is fully updated and patched else visiting some “unblocked” site could really infest your machine,
