the difference between pro and free

I’m just wondering if there’s actually a big difference from PRO and FREE avast!
Would there be a difference in virus detection, or are they about the same?

1 more provider (script blocker), and more configuration options ie: what do do with an infected file when found during a scan, can be preset so no user interaction is required.

Both use the same engine and vps, detections are the same.

Check this link :

so overall, the two are no big differences from the two security wise? The only thing I’m thinking the pro version has is more options

The pro version is much more flexible and doesn’t require interactive action when an infected file and can continue with the scan. Rather than when you get back the scan hasn’t completed and is waiting for your response. It depends on your needs if you want the additional flexibility.

The Script Blocker adds another level of protection assuming that you use the browsers that it supports.

The signature files and scanning engine are the same.

is firefox supported for script blocking?

It’s not on the list. see image.

Script Blocker cannot work with Firefox: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=14879.msg125840#msg125840

The browser extracts the scripts from the page and passes them to Script Blocker. It scans them for viruses and if everything is OK, the browser continues execution. There’s no whitelist… and the scanning itself shouldn’t affect the execution in any way.
