The down side of renewing now, lost half a month of old license %^( @#$!^(&*

So I keep getting these popups from Avast, we recommend you renew now, so I did and it appears I lost about a half month on my last license. I don’t think that is fair. I should have waited the day before my license expired, yes? Just a little pissed.

And after I loaded the new license I can only connect to the internet if I turn off Avast. Everything worked fine until I updated my license. Any suggestions, not very good at fixing these kind of things.

Thanks for any help!

This can occur due to incorrect proxy settings in the web browser for Avast

Resolution: Include the Proxy server settings for Internet Explorer when using broadband and/or local area network (LAN) Internet connection

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. Select Tools → Internet Options… from the main menu.
  3. Switch to page Connections.
  4. Click on the LAN Settings… button.
  5. Check the option Use a proxy server for your LAN.
  6. Write localhost into the Address field (alternatively, you can enter IP address 127.0.0.1, which is the same as localhost).
  7. Enter 12080 into the Port field.
  8. Confirm with OK button.

If you still face the issue, please update us back.

Have a wonderful day. Good k@rma!

If you renewed from the avastUI, Maintenance, Registration it should add the 1 year license to the existing license period. If you buy a new license directly from the avast web site it won’t have the reference information (existing license), so the new license starts on purchase.

How did you update/renew your license ?

You can also contact sales (at) avast (dot) com about this with your old license information, period, email address you used before and for the new license and they should hopefully be able to correct it.

I’m using the Fire Fox browser on a Windows Vista machine. I did go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Settings and tried to use the suggestions iYogisolutions1 provided (I’m a computer weenie) but no luck. However I did determine that if I turned off the Avast Web Shield the internet would work. I have another computer that is running the same Program Version of Avast (6.0.1289) and it seems to have the same settings and Fire Fox works fine. That computer runs Windows XP. Also I have a program (RipCast) that won’t run with Web Shield turned on. Never had problems with Avast, it just worked worked worked, protected protected protected. Great software! I was a happy costumer.

To DavidR, I’m not really sure what I clicked on did manage to get 5 new licenses, 4 of which I’m not ready to update the other computers till I get this problem sorted out. I’m guessing I don’t want to leave the Web Shield turned off for too long? Is there an Avast FAQ that might cover my problems?

Thanks to iYogisolutions1 and DavidR for your help.

Hi spinnor ,

You are welcome.

Please try

Avast main GUI → web shield (activate it) → EXPERT settings → “…well known browsers only”. Save and reboot.

Have a wonderful day. Good k@rma!

its simple for the lic’s just email sales@avast.com and explain to them you want to MERGE your old lic’s with the new ones you bought they can simply extend your new ones to include the time left from your old ones

It looks like I did not give you all the information. I thought I was running Avast Pro Antivirus but I was in fact running Avast Internet Security. I bought by mistake 5 licenses of Avast Pro Antivirus and for what ever reason Avast Pro Antivirus did not work properly with my Windows Vista machine. I have since requested a refund for my purchase of Avast Pro Antivirus and have bought 5 licenses of Avast Internet Security. Two computers have been updated and are working properly. Now I can go back to using my computer and not trying to fix them (a task which I am not good at). Thank you for your help and want to apologize to Avast for any trouble I caused.
