The last attempt to update virus definitions was unsuccessful

Hi the past few days the automated virus udates have been in the red with the subject message displayed, I am able to manually kick off the update and it works OK it is very annoying that something is working fine and then stops. I suspect this may be related to the last W7 Updates as the timing certainly coincides I have only performed the important windows updates. Anyone out there with similar experience and more importantly can advise a work a round or solution! ??? Current Version = 5.1.889

There are several others with this problem and most seem to be in NZ, although that isn’t exclusive. I haven’t seen a definitive resolution, something that works up to a point it to try a manual update.

I have been using the current version of avast 5.1.889 and I am trying to install the latest virus definition, it does not do automatically as well as done manually it comes back with an error 412. Am I the only one who is facing this problem, please help.

I am also unable to update the virus definitions. I can run the program but it stops and says the package was blocked. Have used this product successfully for a couple months and this is the first problem I have encountered. Any suggestions?

try the repair install option, has worked for some but not me or others

The below is for XP but other Windows OSes will be similar.

To do a repair of avast :

Control panel > Add/remove programs > click once on avast to select it > click on Change/Remove > scroll down the left pane and click on repair > click OK > follow directions
