Avast still don’t like it when I do a FAT32 to NTFS conversion!!!
It will afterwards display the message suggesting me to buy it and display the message saying that the license key is invalid!!! I’m forced to re-enter the license key.
It also caused Windows 2000 to start getting unhappy with the Avast anti-virus service when that problem occured:
Ended up getting the following error messages if the system event log:
All I can say is: it’s not a bug, it’s a feature. Avast uses (among other things) the serial number of the system volume as a key for encrypting its own license key.
Converting the volume from fat to ntfs changes the volume s/n, and therefore the key is lost…
Use the same Professional key in two different computers.
If avast uses (among other things) the serial number of the system volume as a key for encrypting its own license key, well the user couldn’t update two systems at the same time… In fact, test it ;D
Vlk, what did you get on this test?
Should we continue this by email? Last time, except Igor, nobody from Alwil (from Eduard, Pavel, pk and you) wanted to talk about this with me… :
I’m afraid I don’t understand the question either…
When the license key is entered into avast!, it’s stored such that the installed program cannot simply be copied to another computer (without having the original license key). If you know the license key, however, you can move your avast! to another computer, enter the key… and you’re done.
Ok, you got it. I’m talking about using the same key (known key) in two different computers. I’ve sent suggestions to avoid this: one license and two computers using avast. :-[
