The "Mojave experiment"

What do people think of Windows Vista when they don’t know it’s Windows Vista ?

http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/

I do believe this is another MS propaganda. But just take a good look at those people. They are starring at everything you throw at them like they fell off of Mars or something. They obviously have no clue about computers in general and even less about any OS. This is just another lousy MS attempt to advertise Vista IMO. Of course they are amazed, and that’s because they haven’t touched any OS in their whole life, not even Windows XP. I wonder what would happen if you threw an iPhone or Blackerry at that table lol. They would think you’re an alien from another planet or something.

i think thats really interesting and shows what i always see in reality!

people talk bad about something (in this case its vista) without testing it and knowing what they talk about!

PS: i love vista ;D

Where did they find people who had picked up all those negative impressions about Vista, without ever having seen it running in a PC mag picture/advert, internet blog/article screen shot or video capture, in a shop, at a friends house…?

::slight_smile:

How could someone not recognize what operating system is running in front of them?

Plus why would you run an Ad Campaign that points out the negative features of your product? ::slight_smile:

Unfortunately for some people if it’s Microsoft it must not be very good.
Most of these people have been brainwashed by others.

Nah, it’s just a duff and not-very-convincing ad.

EDIT: In fact, I think I could have done better. ;D

Frank,
Are you running Vista ???

No, Most people have used it, then got smart and went back to XP. I Take Night Classes At a local community college (trying to learn more about networking :)) One new lab is all new Dells, came pre-Loaded with Vsta Business Edition. After A month the college IT staff had XP on them and all machines ordered since then have been ordered with XP. So its not that people have been brainwashed, people have just had a bad taste left over from their past experiences with Vista and don’t want to go back.

Fully agree Bob. Most pc users are no experts and they go by the majority opinion. Nothing new here. I’ve had the same experience with some of my friends who wouldn’t even smell Vista until they came over for a visit and noticed it’s actually not that bad. Now they are all on Vista and enjoying it.

Can you guys please tell us what is so wrong with Vista and why you hate it so much ? I want your personal experience and not repeating something you’ve read on a forum somewhere from Linux and Mac fanboiz who seem to be very upset that Vista is used on more machines than their favorite OS.

I have been using it for about a year and a half now and i am pretty happy with it. It was quite “broken” at first but MS seemed to have fixed the majority of issues with SP1 and regular updates. The drivers have matured aswell. Works quite well now for me and also for all the people i know that are running it. Honestly i am happy with it and XP is just a memory for me now.

Nobody has said anything about Vista, just about the ad. Seriously. Read the posts.

::slight_smile:

How about if you re-read them ?

OK, .: Mac :. said something bad about Vista, but what do you expect, hehe.

::slight_smile:

Mac’s are perfect, everything else is c*** … ;D

I have got a laptop, after a month and half i “killed” Vista(even with SP1),hehehe. XP is alive.haha.
My lap was so slow and bloated with Vista, now with Xp is flying again :D.
I can say my lap isn’t a cheappy product.
My brother owned a top end laptop, switched to XP too,hehehe.
When i have been working, i’m teacher, all PC’s was with a pre installed Vista. Was terrible, but three months later, XP again,hahaha. A lot of problems with printers, with the “local” server, etc etc.
Now i’m using ubuntu and i’m very very happy(very fast and looks very nice… and is an old PC)
I think my lap will be “powered by Linux” very soon,hehehe.
XP for my old games(i don’t like newest games since 2005).

There was an interesting article about this “test” in PCWorld this week (maybe the Steve Bass column?) that did raise one interesting point.

According to the article, each of the testers was given a laptop with the supposedly new OS pre-loaded. And the question was raised, would their reactions have been significantly different if they’d been given copies to install and run on their own, familiar, laptops?

I’ve had a Dell laptop with Vista pre-installed which I’ve used for the past year.
After a small learning curve, I never had any problems with that computer.
I have one Desktop which has only Windows XP SP3 on it. I remeber when I changed over from 98,
There was also a learning curve and a lot of complaints about XP.

I have another desktop that has XP, Vista and Linux (ubuntu) installed. This one allows me to test
problems on any of the 3 operating systems should I need something for this forum or some of the others
I belong to.
All three systems at the beginning of their use, required an adjustment and a learning curve. I’m still struggling with Linux. :cry:
Not being familiar with a system doesn’t make it bad. It simply makes it a challenge to learn how to operate it efficiently.

Yeah, with no pre-loaded software, Vista will almost certainly run faster (though not necessarily as fast as XP). By the time these people order a new Vista PC, they won’t realize the difference. After a while, they will once again say, wow, this is crap (seeing that most of theme aren’t educated with computers to the level of Power Users).

Me? I don’t hate Vista. Microsoft should be working harder. Apparently they are; advancing the Vista and Server 2008 kernels. Unfortunately, these advancements won’t go to Vista or even Server 2008, but to Windows Codename “7”.

Besides, if you’re smart and order a PC with Vista, it’s not horrible. The new driver architecture a caused many of the problems (which are solved by now), and the performance has been tweaked. From what I’ve read, Vista’s way of managing RAM is different and supposed to be more efficient. Unfortunately, for those with 512MB to 1GB of RAM, these new methods bog RAM down instead of managing it well. (And since Power Users usually upgrade instead of transitioning to an entirely new PC, the PC is usually once or even 2 generations old. This means unsupported drivers and not as much memory. Hench the problems, and hence the lack of positive recommendations.) Or, at least, that’s how I see it.

If you want reduce the learning curve and operate it more efficiently, you must work a lot with it.
Now i work with Ubuntu, and i boot my Windows PC only when i need play a bit :P.
If you work everyday with ubuntu, you’ll learn more fastly.
I have a text file with the most important commands that i have been searching or finding, installing/uninstalling from synapttic, testing programs…
We know(you and me) it’s difficult, but it’s more funny.
