I have one suggestion. Off-topic subforum was closed because of IRC like chit chat for every minor thing. But ever since Alwil guys closed it everything basically moved to this section, making it even more confusing.
General topics are meant for everything related to Alwil Software but not with program itself. For example comments and suggestions about webpages, general questions about lets say payment or renewals or chat about antivirus comparison tests and other news from AV world.
Off-topic is meant for everything else not related with avast! or Alwil Software, a general chat section for other real life problems, world events and things like that.
If you have anything personal to say or you want to chat with someone IRC style use Personal Messages (PM’s) or use Instant Messagers like MSN Messenger or YahooMessenger/GoogleTalk, mIRC or even e-mail.
This will make avast! boards clean and friendly again.
Lets do something for avast! community and keep the re-opened Off-topic (and all other subforums nice and clean).
Alwil guys may also consider giving moderator rights to few more users to lead users in right direction if they post spam or those chit chat messages that were reason for closure of Off-topic in the first place.
It was nice before but at some point all the sudden everything collapsed.
So, i have great hopes that Off-topic subforum will re-open again soon!

I have to disagree, and still feel the Avast! team has made a serious judgement error in closing the Avast off-topic forum. Several of the regular members who consistently help new members are remain here to keep continually posting. After the closure of the off-topic forum look at how many posters simply left.
If you talk to many Avast! users one of their praises about the program will be the speedy response time for support questions and the committment of the Avast! community in general - something not seen in Norton, and other large commercialized companies. I think its time that Avast! realized this community is a large part of its positive image, and keeping the community alive only benefits their image. Keeping the general forum strictly on-topic would further alienate the community and avast!.
The funny thing is… since the off-topic forum is closed, no one fights anyone anymore… maybe coincidence, but that’s the fact. Any computer related security forum should look exactly like this one…
Maybe the Off-topic forum name itself was in some way “asking” for a trouble… maybe it should’ve been named something like Coffee Lounge as many forums out there have somethign like that… who knows…
There was not that much fighting in the off-topic forum, I only remember a few especially over random issues. There may be one here or not, they seemed kind of random.
The name has nothing to do with it, the purpose of the forum is still the same. Rejzor, the main reason for the closing of the off-topic forum was the amount of general hatred between members that erupted from on where.

Small mistake I think. It should not be only AV related, it should be all security software realated
Oh, trust me… I am long enough here to know that name actually has a lot to do with that… sometimes some topics were so “off-topic” if it’s even possible to call them that way, that they actually led to such an unbelievable discussion under such an ugly tone… things like Off-topic sub-forums shouldn’t even exist in security related forums. There is a plenty of space out there (WWW), so everyone can start their own off-topic forum or even join millions of other already existing off-topic forums.
Coffee lounge is something completely different and although it may sound similar, it is not the same… it would allow everyone to relax, make friendships, meet new poeple, but not to post every single thing that comes to someone’s mind… or even allow some people attack some other people. We should all act like friends, and that’s how I remember these forums when we just started to garther in here. Only those who are hanging long enough in here can understand what I’m talking about. I remember, this was a peaceful place, and just like my good friend said once… this was a magical garden of friendship.
I know we can have it back, but I also know, there must be some “sharp” rules set as well.
pokes at thread with a stick but it only twitches a little sorry guys, just poking around and i noticed what happened to the off-topic forum. i was planning on posting something but surprised what i found. ppl here do seem nice. so i still wasn’t quite sure if now that so much time has passed, if the general forum being used as kind of a substitute if need be or is it not a good idea?

the time has arrived - after several severe warnings about all the flames here I am forced to close the Off Topic forum. I am very sorry to do this but I do not see any other alternative. I think this was quite unique place on the Internet where friends can meet and discuss different stuff. Unfortunately, sometimes I feel like it is a kindergarten.
I hope all of you will understand our step. I would like to thank to all of you who help us not only to support avast! but to keep this site to be such a wonderful place.
