"The package is broken." error message - what can I do about it?

Hi all –

I’m a new forum member. I recently updated to latest release of Avast! after a two week absence from my computer and being online. The update of the program seemed to go okay, but I notice that when it tried (and still tries) to update my virus definitions, I get an error message as above.

Have any of you encountered this, and know what it means or how I can fix it?

Hi, this is the wrong thread for this, but shhhhhh, I wont tell anyone

Try a repair of your Avast! install, do this by acting as though you are going to uninstall Avast! normally, but choose the repair option.
