'the package is broken' error when updating software - how do I fix?

I renewed my license for the free software last week and today when it tried to do the automatic update, I got the following…

Last encounter error: The package is broken.

Total time: 5 s

I’ve run it several times and have the same problem. How do I go about repairing or redownloading the software?
